Everything is design... everything! –Paul Rand
Now that my children are all about to be in school, I've decided to return as well!
I am currently taking classes at A&M Commerce for EC-12 Art Teacher Certification. I have learned so much already and look forward to continually absorbing all that I can about education, art, and combining the two.
I hope to be a teacher that inspires creativity, builds students' confidence, fosters a classroom environment that is a safe place for artistic exploration, and helps develop their art skills. I want to be mindful of appropriately incorporating teaching models/philosophies and facilitate the class so that my students learn to make connections in and beyond the classroom. This will be accomplished by encouraging thoughtful dialogue that encompasses lifelong and lifewide learning, utilizing the affordances of the materials and technology to reach beyond their utilitarian function, and producing meaningful content to discover and explore. I also want to expose my students to the professional world of art so they can know what career options are available, from fine art, industrial design, graphic design, and architecture - the possibilites are numerous! Paul Rand's quote is spot on - Everything is design (poorly or brilliantly), and my goal is to encourage brilliance in my students. Let's make something that inspires the world!
